Good Moral Character

A statutory eligibility requirement for naturalization and certain other immigration benefits.

Good moral character is judged over a statutory period (5 years for most N-400 applicants, 3 years for those married to U.S. citizens). Certain criminal convictions are permanent statutory bars; others are discretionary considerations.
