Aggravated Felony

A specific list of crimes that triggers severe immigration consequences regardless of state-law classification.

INA §101(a)(43) defines a list of "aggravated felonies" that includes murder, rape, drug trafficking, and certain theft/violent crimes. An aggravated felony conviction generally bars asylum, cancellation, and most relief from removal, and triggers deportability.
