Removal Proceedings
Immigration court hearings to determine whether a noncitizen must leave the U.S.
Removal (formerly "deportation") proceedings begin when DHS files a Notice to Appear (Form I-862) in immigration court. The noncitizen may contest removability and apply for relief such as cancellation, asylum, or adjustment of status in court.
